From 8 to 10 May, the international festival FOCUS WALES will once again feature The Spanish Wave, who will present four music projects in the city of Wrexham, North Wales.

ONA MAFALDA the pop artist, compulsive composer, inevitable lyricist and sometimes instrumentalist based in Madrid. Installed in conviction after assimilating a heterogeneous mix of influences ranging from the Mediterranean to the Balkans, passing through London or New York... her music is the result of a demanding work of assimilation that results in her own style. FULL CAB from Bilbao, raw rock with a touch of transgression, CUSHLA a dynamic artistic collective, a fusion of talents from Barcelona and Ireland; Their innovative sound combines the traditional art of “sean nós” singing with contemporary electronic music, creating a new musical experience. Their music transcends borders and translates Irish cultural heritage into drum machines, analog synthesizers and digital arts and MIRAGE a trio from Madrid, alternative rock with influences from both alternative rock and shoegaze, they define themselves as “Psychocosmic and interplanetary rock”.

FOCUS WALES takes place across multiple venues, clubs, churches, parks etc across Wrexham town, shining the music industry's spotlight on the emerging talent Wales has to offer the world, alongside a selection of the best emerging artists from around the world.

Every year more than 22,000 people come to the city to spend the weekend attending different events and seeing great artists such as ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, RICHARD HAWLEY, THE CORAL, SQUID, SPIRITUALIZED, THE MYSTERINES, THE ROYSTON CLUB, DEERHOF, etc, have performed in past editions.

ELENA JÁTIVA, REME, DYATLOV and RUVENRUVEN went hand in hand with the Spanish wave in 2024 and 2025 is an unmissable event to present their musical proposals and make them known outside our borders.

SHOWCASE & FIESTA

Hope Street Church, a curious venue in the city centre where events are held throughout the year and which is always a venue for performances within the festival, will also host this year the showcase of our artists with the official fiesta “Meet The Spaniards” prior to the showcases.

ONA MAFALDA

There are no coincidences in the career of this artist. Ona Mafalda is making her way as a professional on the international music scene through discipline and her commitment to creation, without concessions: "I am what I do". Musically trained at Berklee College of Music - Boston, with a degree in songwriting, the artist, based in Madrid, has composed all her songs - more than 30 published - available on the main music platforms all over the world.

Ona Mafalda defines herself as "compulsive composer, inevitable lyricist and optional instrumentalist". Installed in the conviction after assimilating a heterogeneous mixture of influences that go from the Mediterranean to the Balkans, passing through London or New York... her music is the result of a demanding work of assimilation that derives in her own style.

"Bailando sin sentido", was the title of Ona Mafalda's first Spanish EP released in 2021. Received with surprise and immediate recognition by the specialised critics, as well as consolidating her presence on the music scene, it awakened the need to pay attention to the career of a firmly promising pop artist

A satiny and captivating vocal timbre coupled with the emotionality of her music often lead those who taste comparisons to perceive flavours and aromas of artists such as Lorde, Mitski, Florence and the Machine, Lana del Rey, Doja Cat, Sza or Cigarettes after Sex.

FULL CAB

The Bilbao quartet released, in a self-produced way in 2021, their debut “Out Of Order” produced by Hans Kruger (Vulk, La Plata, El Columpio Asesino, La Paloma) because he had worked with groups that were references for them and that their creative work would be ideal to reflect the rawness they wanted, without clapperboard or artifice.

Since then, their forceful and direct rock is shown in their songs with catchy melodies, raw guitars, a bass with melodic overtones and lyrics in the singer's native English.

In March 2025 they will release their self-titled album of a new stage for the group, which has found a more elaborate sound but equally intense in its lyrics, softer voices, more careful harmonies and melodic guitars with distortion.

CUSHLA

Cushla is a dynamic artistic collective, a fusion of talents from Barcelona and Ireland. Their innovative sound combines the traditional art of sean nós singing with contemporary electronic music, creating a new musical experience. Their music transcends borders and translates Irish cultural heritage to drum machines, analog synthesizers and digital arts.

Don't miss their latest releases and prepare to be enchanted by the harmonious fusion of traditional Irish melodies and cutting-edge electronic sounds.

MIRAGE

Mirage, the Madrid band formed by Beatriz Mariñas (vocals), Clara Sánchez (bass) and Pelayo Escandón (guitar), released their debut in January 2024, ten songs that unfold as an emotional journey that ranges from introspection to explosion, honestly exploring themes such as disenchantment, the search for identity and the contradictions of love.

Bitter Sour combines the visceral and the evocative in a magnetic balance. An album that revitalizes the spirit of seventies rock and contains certain nineties echoes without falling into nostalgia, adding to a fresh and current approach. Under the production and arrangements of Diego Perinetti and the impeccable touch of Guille Mostaza in the mixing and mastering at Alamo Shock, it captures the essence of the trio: a game of light and shadow where raw guitars, an energetic bass and a voice that oscillates between fragility and the freshest power.

Mirage present themselves with lyrics full of irony and truth, they flee from the predictable and shine with their own light.
