Second phase of the project LOESS

Research activities during the first phase assessed the current state of soil health education in Europe. One study analysed educational programs across 15 countries, identifying gaps, challenges, and opportunities through desk research, 15 focus groups and 150 interviews. Another study, carried out through this survey, examined educators’ knowledge, practices, and needs, highlighting areas for improvement in integrating soil health topics into curricula. National reflective workshops hosted by the 15 LOESS' Communities of Practices (CoPs) validated these findings and incorporated diverse stakeholder perspectives. These findings were consolidated into the “Awareness, Needs, and Vision for Soil Education” report (currently under review by the European Commission), which provides a foundation for the project’s further activities.Â
The analysed existing resources, such as training materials and soil data visualizations, and the expertise of project partners was basis to integrate impactful soil health topics into the development of tailored teaching modules and innovative tools such as:Â

Not a tool as such, but without the 15 CoPs, we couldn’t move forward with all the studies and tools. You can learn more about them here.
